Beginning his career in the late 80s, Willard Christopher Carol Smith, better known by his stage name ‘Will Smith’ shot to fame in the early 1990s show ‘The fresh prince of Bel Air’ where he played a fictionalized version of himself. However when Smith made his acting debut in 1992 with ‘Where the Day Takes you’ he almost swept Hollywood off its feet. Like many of his contemporaries such as Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Louis Gossett Jr and Denzel Washington, Smith began to immediately get major leading roles in various films although unlike Freeman, he and the other mentioned actors began to still play ‘black parts’ in films. Smith however was not concerned with what parts he played in film, as long as he kept his passion for acting.
