The best places to visit in Namibia

Namibia
The driest nation in Southern Africa, few countries in Africa can match Namibia's sheer natural beauty. The country's name derives from its (and the world's) oldest desert, the Namib, and there are few more stirring desert realms on the planet, from the sand sea and perfect dead-tree valleys at Sossusvlei to the flamingos at Walvis Bay. Etosha national park, Namibia’s premiere national park is larger than the American state of New Jersey with popular stars such as the Lion, giraffe and elephant. With a versatility of desert and green, it is difficult to think of an iconic African landscape that Namibia does not possess

  1.           Windhoek
Nestled among rolling hills in a valley created by the sloping Khomas Hochland Plateau to the West and the Auas Mountains to the East, Namibia's capital Windhoek is scenically situated. At an altitude of almost 1700m, the city avoids the excessive heat experienced in much of the rest of the country with daytime temperatures rarely topping 30 degrees in summer or dipping 10 degrees in winter. Whether due to meticulous German planning or serendipity, Windhoek lies almost in the heart of the country which makes it the perfect starting point for any tour in Namibia

    -        Christ Church
Built in 1907, this Christian monument built on a traffic island, represented the end of the wars involving the natives and the Germans during the time when it was known as 'German South-West Africa'

    2.     Okapuka Ranch
Where once Lions were kept by a wealthy German, today the descendants of those Lions are trained to learn how to live in the wild

    3.     Swakopmund
A beach resort and an example of German colonial architecture

    -        Swakop River
An estuary that enters the Atlantic Ocean via the Namib Desert

    4.     Namib Desert
The oldest desert in the world

    -        Moon Valley
Where to find the rare Welwitschia Mirabalis plant

    -        Namib Naukluft
The only place in Namibia not to have mass tourism despite being Southern Africa’s largest conservation region

    -        Skeleton Coast
The seaside that gets its name due to its history of shipwrecks washing up on shore|

    5.     Walvis Bay
Meaning ‘Whale Bay’ this is one of the few places in Southern Africa to find flamingos

    6.     Luderitz
Named after Adolf Luderitz (1834-1886) who founded Namibia as ‘German South West Africa’ which is its former name. Its housing is similar to those in Greece, and Christianity is a strong practice here

    7.    Etosha National Park
Namibia’s premiere national park which is larger than the American state of New Jersey, nearly 500 Lions roam the vast landscape of this national park. Other star animals include Elephants, oryx, giraffes and the rarely seen Black Rhinoceros and Leopard
